With his brand new song, Roman Alexander pays tribute to his favorite football team, Missouri Tigers. “Missouri on My Mind” surprisingly rings with an emotional core, finding Alexander pouring his all into each and every lyric. “There’s something in them stadium lights / A three-beer buzz before halftime,” he sings.
Production rinses smooth on the eardrums, with Alexander’s signature caramel vocals stirring the heart. “My heart racing like it’s 4th and 5 / On a Midwest Saturday night,” he continues in the chorus. “When October brings the cold, we paint these streets black and gold. /It happens every year about this time / I get Missouri on my mind.”
As the song builds and builds, raucous cheers poke through the arrangement, bookending the song with the ferocious intensity of watching a real football game. Written with Lukas Scott and Jared Scott, “Missouri on My Mind” relishes in the present; there’s nothing quite like watching a game and feeling the rush of camaraderie that comes with rooting and cheering for a team. Even if you’re not a football fan, per se, you’ll find yourself pumping those fists anyway.
“You’ve heard football songs about Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, or Texas… but never one about
Missouri,” Alexander shares in a press statement. “This isn’t just another football song. This is a love letter to Missouri and the amazing/loyal fans that make that small college town feel so nostalgic. Even if you aren’t a Missouri football fan, I believe this will make you feel something regardless of where you are from. MIZ.”
