Jake Scott ‘One On The Way’ (Review)
Jake Scott wields an acoustic guitar like an iron-wrought double-edged sword. It’s sharp and cuts skin. That’s certainly evident with “One on the Way,” an emotional stunner that plucks heartstrings and induces chills. “Heart stopped when I saw your black dress / Long hair, looked like an actress,” he begins, flipping through various chapters of a burgeoning relationship.
His words fall as silky rose petals to the ground, soft to the touch and elegant. “Six months, I had no doubts / My friends told me to slow down,” he sings in the second verse. “But we were falling, already all in / Knew it was meant to last.”
“One on the Way” samples Scott’s forthcoming debut long-player, Lavender, out October 20. “This is one of the few songs I’ve ever written that felt like it already existed, and I was just receiving it,” he posted on Instagram about the new track. “It immediately felt bigger than me. I can’t express how much it means to me, and I just couldn’t wait any longer.”

To date, Scott has released countless singles and several smaller projects, including 2019’s Year of the Sunflower and Golden Boy in 2021. Lavender, which also features “Come Close” and “Good Day,” promises to take his career to the next level. We can’t wait to see it.
