Austin Burke Tugs On the Heartstrings with Song “More Like Her” Dedicated to First Son (Interview)

Singer-songwriter Austin Burke is a very busy dad-to-be. As a full-time musician, the artist is preparing for his first kid with wife Lexy Burke.

As soon as I found out that I was going to be a dad, I felt emotions that I’ve never felt before. It immediately made me think back to my childhood and all the ups and downs but mostly, it made me consider the kind of example that I want to be for this kid,” shares Austin.

On Friday (6/2), Austin released his most personal and heart-warming release to date, “More Like Her.”

When asked about why Burke chose to release a song like this, he explained: “I want to always be level with him [the baby] to be real and authentic so he can live his best life. I think that’s the reason that I enjoy country music like I do. I always think about where I’m at in my life when I’m writing but know this song is something special and one that I’ll always cherish.”

Austin and his wife Lexy shared the announcement of the baby on Instagram on April 16th.

Austin’s new single pulls on the heartstrings of the listeners. The track begins and the first thing that is heard is the baby’s heartbeat from Lexy and Austin’s most recent sonogram appointment.

My wife Lexy was very sick the night before our first doctor’s appointment. We went on Google to research if what she was feeling was normal and we began to panic because everything we read was so negative,” shares Burke. “Thankfully, as soon as we had the appointment and we were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat, we both immediately felt an instant relief and I started crying. I’m so glad that I recorded that moment so it’s something that we can have forever.

As soon as we left the doctor’s appointment, Lexy and I were just overwhelmed with relief that everything was okay. I shot the recording that I had made to my producer, Brandon Day, asking if he could put it into the song [baby heartbeat]. He worked it into the intro and sent it back to me within the hour,” tells Austin. “It fits perfectly and every time I heart it, it brings a tear to my eye.

Most recently, Austin performed his first arena show opening for Billy Currington and cross over 200 million combined streams which include releases “Crazy, Crazy,” “Let It Burn,” “Take My Life,” and several others.

There’s no question that Austin is prepared for adding “dad” to the list of titles alongside being a full-time musician.

I know it won’t be easy, but I am excited to show my son that he can follow whatever dreams he has. Last week, I was actually given a pair of my first boots that I could pass down to my son. Things like that hit differently now,” tells Burke. “At that moment, I realized that I was actually living out my childhood dream of being a country artist. I can’t wait to support my son in whatever dreams he has. It’ll most likely mean that I have a lot less sleep and a lot less time, but thankfully I think it’ll only drive me more. I just want to make him and Lexy proud.”
